Privacy, in plain terms.

Grade Britain is a free reference tool — a website and an iOS app — showing how every UK GCSE and A-level subject performs nationally. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for. This page sets out exactly what is, and isn't, collected.
The short version
The iOS app collects nothing at all. The website uses cookieless, anonymous analytics — no cookies, no personal data, and no tracking you around the web.
Who we are
Grade Britain is operated by Mike Lehnert (Music Tech Studio), a Music Technology teacher. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), Music Tech Studio is the data controller. Questions about privacy: privacy@musictechstudio.co.uk.
The iOS app
The Grade Britain app collects no data. It makes no network calls, contains no analytics or tracking, and has no account or sign-in. The only thing it stores is your list of pinned subjects, which stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. On the App Store this is reflected as a “Data Not Collected” privacy label.
This website
The website has no accounts, no sign-in, and no forms, so it collects no personal data from you. To understand which subjects people find useful, it uses PostHog analytics, configured to be deliberately privacy-preserving:
- Cookieless — nothing is written to cookies or local storage, so under UK PECR/GDPR no consent banner is required.
- Anonymous — you are never identified; we don’t know, and don’t try to learn, who you are.
- EU-hosted (Frankfurt), with IP addresses anonymised.
What this measures is aggregate and anonymous: pages viewed, where visits came from, approximate region, device type, and which subjects get explored. None of it identifies you.
Who processes data for us
- Vercel (Frankfurt, EU) — website hosting.
- PostHog (Frankfurt, EU) — cookieless, anonymous analytics.
We do not sell or rent data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
The grade data itself
The figures shown come from JCQ national results and awarding-body breakdowns (2022–2025). This is public, aggregate statistical data — not personal data about any individual student.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the use of any personal data we hold about you. In practice we hold no personal data about website or app users — but if you have any question or request, email privacy@musictechstudio.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
